Es petit hotel valldemossa

In the off or fringe-season, there’s a calm that settles over you the moment you arrive in Valldemossa — a hush between the stone walls and the steep folds of the Tramuntana mountains.

In March, I spent a long weekend there with my best friend, tucked into the newly renovated Es Petit Hotel while we wandered through the village and quietly scouted for a potential new home for me.

Set just off the main cobbled street, Es Petit is exactly what you want it to be and nothing more — which, in a place like Mallorca, is everything. The kind of hotel where the light moves slowly across old tiles, there’s always fresh orange juice at the ready and someone kind at the front desk who remembers your name. The rooms are soft and minimal but full of warmth — with views that pull your eye out across the valley, especially from the upper terrace.

It’s that terrace that got us: sunlit and silent in the morning, dappled in the late afternoon, the perfect place to sit and contemplate bigger things.

The recent renovation was done with a careful hand — the kind that knows what not to touch. The bones of the house remain: stone walls, timber beams, and the quiet, aged beauty we all look for in Mallorcan architecture. But layered into that are just enough modern touches — thoughtful tones, new windows and doors that frame the light just right, design details that feel both elevated and intuitive. There's now a modern bar tucked beside the dining terrace, a cozy little salon for reading or lingering, and downstairs, a garden that feels less like the mountains and more like a corner of the South of France — wild with lavender, citrus, and long, warm afternoons.

Since then, it’s become a stop I return to — for a takeaway coffee, for that view, for the simple quiet that feels like a small ritual. The owners are locals, generous and gentle, with an eye for restraint and charm. You feel well taken care of, never fussed over.

Its location couldn’t be better — right in the heart of the village but the interior is insulated enough to be peaceful. From here, it’s a straight shot into the Tramuntana for a hike, or a winding drive out to Deià, Banalbufar or down to the rugged west coast. It's the kind of place made for a 2-night stay: arrive, drop your bag, and exhale. It’s not grand, and it’s not trying to be. Which, in Valldemossa, is exactly the point.

Mallorca is the Mediterranean dream but it’s also our home; let us open it to you.
